Pre-Conference Courses

The North Carolina Chapters of APCO and NENA are pleased to offer Pre-Conference Classes for the 2016 NC Public-Safety Communications Conference.  Classes will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 8:00am until 5:00pm; preregistration is required for Pre-Conferene Classes and will be offered on a first come first serve basis.


Call Processing Incidents Involving Veterans with PTSD (APCO Course)
Course Description:
This course provides information regarding the challenges that returning military veterans are facing and prepares Telecommunicators for the possibility of interaction with veterans in crisis.  The focus is on veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or traumatic brain injury.

Caught in the Middle: A Guide to Middle Management (NENA Course)
Course Description:
The heart of management in public safety communications rests on the shoulders of the “middle managers”.  This course provides strategies for success for supervisors and managers who are caught in the middle.  Real world examples and techniques will be utilized to assist middle managers in understanding the best ways to communicate messages up and down, developing leadership qualities in themselves and mentoring subordinates, and avoiding the land mines that can impact both PSAP operations and career advancement.

Continuity of Operations (COOP) (DHS Course)
Course Description:
This course is based on the guidance to the Federal Executive Branch departments and agencies for developing Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plans and Programs. COOP Plans facilitate the performance of essential functions during any situation which may disrupt normal operations. This course provides the skills and knowledge to improve the overall quality and workability of COOP Plans.
