Director of Newtown Emergency Communications Center to Serve as Guest Speaker

NC NENA and NC APCO are pleased to announce Ms. Maureen Will as our guest speaker for the Opening Breakfast of the 2014 NC NENA/NC APCO Annual Conference. Maureen has been with the Newtown (Connecticut) Emergency Communications Center since July 2008, where she served as the 911 Director over the PSAP that fielded the majority of calls from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012.

Prior to serving the Newtown Emergency Communications Center, Maureen served for 30 years with the Brookfield Police Department, where she held the title of Captain over Communications, Training, and Records.

In her capacity as Director at the Newtown Emergency Communications Center, she serves as the Secretary of the Managers of Emergency Communications Centers Association (MECCA), serves as First Vice-President of APCO and is also an active member in NENA.

Along with her duties in the Communications Center, she is also a Deputy Emergency Management Director and Instructor for the State of Connecticut for Telecommunicators and was part of the working group for the new statewide Telecommunicators curriculum.

In her down time, Maureen enjoys reading mysteries and has a passion for NASCAR.

NC 9-1-1 Conference Hosts Newtown, Connecticut 9-1-1 Director as Keynote Speaker

The North Carolina Chapter of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and the North Carolina Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) will be hosting their annual conference at the Sea Trail Conference Center in Sunset Beach, NC September 7-10, 2014. One of the conference highlights is the addition of Maureen Will as the keynote breakfast speaker. Conference attendees invited to participate in 5k and 10k
The Brunswick Family Assistance Agency (BFA) will be holding a Sea Trail 10k and 5K on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Sea Trail Golf Resort and all NC NENA/APCO conference attendees have been invited to race or participate. There will be a 10K, 5K and 1-mile fun run on Saturday.

There is a 7:30 am 10K early start time for walkers or anyone who needs to get an early start and still have time to make a morning meeting or t-time. The Sea Trail 10k/5k run start time is 8:00 am. The race course travels through picturesque neighborhoods in the resort and are precisely measured distances. Post-race refreshments and awards ceremony takes place near the Conference Center main entrance in a shaded grassy area.

The race benefits Brunswick Family Assistance Agency which is a local non-profit that helps people in many ways with an emphasis on people getting back on their feet and moving forward into more independent and fulfilling lives additional information is available at www.brunswickfamily.org.
